Since 1972, more than three million people have visited Talcott Mountain State Park. To some, Talcott Mountain State Park is easy to define. It's a 450-acre expanse of land anchored by the Heublein Tower, owned by the State of Connecticut, and administered by the DEP. In reality, however, Talcott Mountain State Forest is considerably more. It is home to a wealth of flora and fauna indigenous to the region, distinct geographical formations dating all the way back to ancient times, Native American and early American histories, miles of gradual hiking trails, broad expanses and awesome vistas, including a spectacular ridgeline, lush woodlands, and gentle slopes. And it is home to Gilbert Heublein's unique summer estate, complete with hand-laid stone walls, a 165-foot reinforced concrete tower, and a story all its own. This Trail Guide contains information on the Park's wildlife, geography, geology and natural history, as well as information on the architectural and specific history of Heublein Tower. An excellent guide for both field trips and self-guided explorations.
