Majestic and powerful, the eagle is our symbol of freedom and one of the most popular birds in all of North America. Over three feet in length, with a wingspan of six to seven and a half feet, and with the ability to fly nearly 40 miles per hour, these fast and efficient hunters can live 20 to 25 years or more in the wild. In Connecticut, over the past three years, the DEP has tracked eight pairs, which successfully fledged seven young in 2004.
